In the October 4, 2008 Philadelphia Inquirer I noted on the front page an article on this idea for clean energy off the east coast shore. I visit Ocean City, NJ periodically which is the area they are wanting to place this site. The site is to supply 125,000 homes with energy. The windmills have to be set in water that is 100 ft or less deep. Yet the planners have to also be concerned about the "view" for the people on shore. Resale value of homes, interrupting their view of the ocean. One thought that came to mind besides the cost, how do they decide who gets to use the "energy" and how does that affect their energy billing... but what happens when there are hurricanes? The winds, the tides! Kind of interesting but makes me also think of the Pfizer "plan" that fell through... are they considering everything considering the funding needed for this idea?
